What Does Salvation Mean?

As Christians, we receive salvation once we are converted. Conversion means to turn or change. It means we've repented of our sins, committed our lives to Christ, and accepted Him as our personal savior.  We consciously decide to stop devoting time and energy on things that are not the will of God.

"Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (II Corinthians 5:17) Becoming a "new creature" does not mean a Christian is full grown and will not make mistakes or is perfect.

The conversion experience precedes joining the church. "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." (Acts 2:38). "Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls." (Acts 2:41)
